Magnetic locks are used to secure different types of doors such as glass, wood, metal and others like fireproof door. This makes them perfect for commercial and industrial applications.
In order to be able to test your electromagnetic locks, here is a brief overview of the components (solenoid/maglock), installation and set up.
Key Parts of a Magnetic Lock Kit
Most common magnetic lock kit will come with a topplate, the mlock body itself, armature plate + screw pack. Sometimes additional brackets are needed like the L Bracket, Z Bracket, U bracket or LZ Bracket. These auxiliary brackets are necessary to modify the fit of installation in various doorway configurations and it also secures powerful grip.
Magnetic Lock Installation

Surface Installation of the Magnetic Lock Body
Begin by removing the upper stud using a 3mm Allen wrench. Next, detach the pre-installed top plate with the same wrench. Feed the power cable through the wire hole in the top plate. Using the top plate as a template, mark and drill the screw holes, then attach the plate with eight screws. Remove the screws from the magnetic lock cover, connect the power cables, and reinstall the cover. Secure the lock body to the fixed top plate and tighten the screws with the Allen wrench. Finally, reinstall the upper stud.
Surface Installation of the Armature Plate
Position the armature plate on the door leaf so that it aligns with the magnetic lock body when connected. Drill screw holes in the door frame following the 1:1 positioning label provided by Toplock, ensuring a depth of 1 cm. Insert location pins into the holes, then place the Central Screw M8x35 into the armature plate’s central hole. Secure the armature plate using Rivet Type Nut M8x30 and the Central Screw M8x35, adjusting the tension for proper contact with the lock body.
Hidden Door Installation
Prepare a hole in the door frame for the lock body, ensuring alignment with the armature plate. Insert the lock body into the hole and secure it with screws. Position the armature plate on the door leaf, drill the necessary screw holes, and fix it using Rivet-type nut and Central Screw M8x35. Ensure proper alignment and tighten the components as needed.
Auxiliary Bracket Installation
For doors with narrow frames, use the L Bracket to mount the magnetic lock body on the indoor side of the frame, allowing the armature plate to connect on out-swing doors. The Z Bracket, often used in conjunction with the L Bracket, is designed for specific installations. In cases where the door frame is absent or too slim, the LZ Bracket combination is ideal, facilitating correct mounting of both the lock body and armature plate. For glass doors, the U Bracket mounts on the top of the glass door leaf to align with the magnetic lock body beneath the door frame.
Wiring a Magnetic Gate Lock
Magnetic gate locks are installed mechanically but require wiring to work. The basic models needs two wires connected from the terminal of the power supply to a positive and negative flip flop. Unavailable Release button, a varieties of keypad or access readers to control the lock. These locks will also offer features such as feedback signals, time delays and buzzer alarms which all only add to making them the best.
Important Considerations
Electromagnetic locks are fail-safe, so they unlock when power is off. No FAILSECURE (i.e. the lock cannot be locked securely in case of a power failure) Note — Always avoid using magnetic locks in an environment above 40°C or or +95% humidity to save it from damage. For best results, make sure the surfaces touching are aligned and clean.
